Once individuals are chosen by the Board, the Board Development Committee is responsible for providing them with the support and training that they will need to become contributing, informed Board members. In addition to the experience requirements, new Board members should be selected on the basis of their ability to work collaboratively with others, their availability to dedicate the time needed to be an effective Board member, and their desire and willingness to support WRC’s goals and operations as a regional center. All candidates must be informed that the commitment to the Board requires a minimum of five hours per month.

Changes in service delivery and billing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic may have affected individuals and communities differently. Care should be taken in comparing FY 20/21 data to data for previous years. In response to the pandemic and varied individual needs and circumstances, billing for some services changed to a monthly rate instead of hourly or daily rates. As a result, this may have reduced differences among individuals in service authorizations, expenditures, and utilization.

National Core Indicators (NCI) Data

In 2010, in accordance with Welfare and Institutions Code, Section 4571, the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) implemented a nationwide quality assessment survey called the National Core Indicators (NCI) produced by the Human Services Research Institute and the National Association of Directors of Developmental Disabilities.

NCI is one tool that DDS uses to monitor the performance of the developmental disabilities service system as well as the performance of the 21 regional centers in providing services and supports for developmentally disabled adults and children.

The NCI surveys are conducted by the State Council on Developmental Disabilities through in-person interviews with adult consumers every three years and consumers who have moved out of a developmental center to the community every year.

Surveys collect data on consumer and family satisfaction, quality of services, and personal results. For more information, View the website.
