Step 2 of 5
On the Waiting List
Eligible families wait for a home on THI's list. The list is ordered by preference points, then by the date and time of each complete application. Update your application every year to keep your place.
- Once a year THI asks you to update your application
- Up to 30 points for years on the list with yearly updates
- Tribal Council gives the list its final approval
Your place on the list
Every eligible applicant is ranked by preference points. When two applicants have the same points, the one whose complete application, with all supporting documents, was stamped first comes first.
Meeting a preference does not guarantee selection for a unit, but rather identifies priority groups for first consideration.
Preference points
THI gives points for each of these that applies to your household. The points for years on the list count only if you updated your application every year.
| Preference | Points |
|---|---|
| Santa Ana family The head of household or spouse is enrolled with the Pueblo with a Certificate of Indian Blood. | 25 |
| Very low income Household income below 50% of median income. | 10 |
| Low income Household income between 50% and 80% of median income. | 5 |
| Disability The head of household, spouse or sole member of the household has a disability. | 5 |
| Elder The head of household or spouse is 62 or older. | 5 |
| Military service The head of household or spouse is in the military or is a veteran. | 10 |
| Family size Each dependent: a household member other than the head or spouse who is under 18, has a disability or is a full-time student. | 5 each |
| Without housing Your family has no housing of its own. | 15 |
| High housing costs Your family pays more than 50% of its income for current housing costs. | 10 |
| Substandard conditions Your home is unsafe, needs major repair, or lacks plumbing or water, a working kitchen, safe electricity or safe heat. | 5 |
| Overcrowded More people live in your home than its occupancy standard allows, or two or more families share a home built for one. | 5 |
| Years on the waiting list With your application updated every year: 1 year, 10 points; 2 years, 20 points; 3 years or more, 30 points. | 10 to 30 |
All claims for preference must be documented and certified, where applicable, by a governmental agency.
THI checks your preferences again before it selects you for a home.
Your annual update
Once a year THI writes to everyone on the list and asks them to update their application. You can update it in person, by mail, by fax, by email or online.
Applicants who receive notice to update their application and fail to update their application will lose their place on the waiting list and their file will automatically become inactive for lack of interest.
If your situation changes
Tell THI when someone joins or leaves your household, or when your income changes. Applying for another THI program keeps your place on this list until THI selects you for a home under that program.
To leave the waiting list, send THI a written notice.
