Buy this year's dog tag
By mail or in person
Tags go on sale the first working day of January and the deadline is January 31. Mail a copy of the current rabies vaccination certificate, the fee, and a stamped self-addressed envelope to the Treasurer, and the tag is mailed back. The counter at Suite 100 sells them too.

A license is a receipt and a metal tag. Keep both: the law requires the receipt to be available on request, and the tag to be fastened to a substantial collar the dog wears at all times.
A dog found loose in the County without a current tag is treated as a stray and impounded by Animal Control. A missed tag can bring a summons and a fine of $25 to $500 per dog, plus court costs.
