What the rabies rules require

  • Every animal bite involving a person must be reported to the Health Department within 24 hours
  • If your animal is bitten by another animal, wild or domestic, confine it and report the incident
  • An animal without a current rabies vaccination is quarantined for ten days at the owner's expense

If it can be done without further danger, confine the animal until an officer can secure it for testing or investigation.

What the shelter does not do

  • The shelter is not a state-approved facility for cats
