Public Safety

Police Department

Reach an officer, request a record, register an alarm, or license a pet. Fire and emergency medical service in Sumner is provided separately by East Pierce Fire & Rescue.

In an emergency

Call 911

Any situation that is happening right now and threatens someone’s safety.

Non-emergency

(253) 287-4455

Everything else an officer should know about: a problem already over, a suspicious situation without immediate danger, or something to report after the fact. Call as soon as you can: a complaint reported hours or days later is often too late for an officer to act on.

Records & registrations

Alarm registration is a one-time $25 fee, waived for residents 65 and older. Pet licensing and animal control both run through Metro Animal Services, the regional agency Sumner Police operates for animal control and sheltering, not through this office directly.
