The standard we build to

Every page on this site is built and tested against WCAG 2.2 Level AA, the current, most complete version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. That includes keyboard operability, screen-reader support, color contrast, and predictable navigation on every page, not a subset of them.

Federal law sets a lower floor for now. Under the Department of Justice’s ADA Title II web accessibility rule, cities are required to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA by a set date. Because Sumner’s population is under 50,000 (10,621 in the 2020 Census, the figure the rule uses), that date is April 26, 2028. We are not waiting for it. This site is built to the newer, stricter 2.2 standard now.

What this means for you

• Keyboard. Every menu, search box, and link on this site works without a mouse, including the mobile navigation drawer and the search dropdown.
• Screen readers. Pages use real headings and landmarks, and every meaningful photo has a written description, so assistive technology can read the page in a sensible order.
• Contrast. Text and interactive controls meet WCAG color-contrast minimums against their backgrounds.
• Motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, this site’s animations turn off automatically; nothing here auto-plays or flashes.
• Plain language. Pages are written in plain, direct language, not legal or technical jargon, wherever the subject allows it.
