Officers are adopted into first grade classrooms for the school year and visit at least once a month to build rapport, cover safety topics, and take part in classroom activities.

The Fairmont Police Department serves roughly 10,500 members of the community with 18 full time officers, two records technicians, and a community service officer.

Ways the department works with residents
Citizens On Patrol
Volunteers from local VFW Post 1222 observe and report, providing extra presence at parades, fireworks, the Martin County Fair, and park checks.
Crisis Intervention Team
A community policing model that brings together law enforcement, mental health providers, and hospital emergency departments to improve responses to people in crisis.
School Resource Officers
Officers serve as liaisons between the Police Department, Fairmont Area Schools, and Arise Academy, a partnership that dates to a full time officer first placed in 2001.
Crime Prevention and Community Outreach
Officers work with businesses and residents to raise public safety awareness and will conduct a crime prevention analysis for a home or business on request.
Narcotics Enforcement and Education
The department works with county, state, and regional partners to keep illegal drugs off the streets and offers a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to a drug arrest and conviction.
