Why the city runs a liquor store
The Fairmont Municipal Liquor Store opened December 10, 1957 after citizens voted to run their own store, both to control alcohol sales and to fund local projects. Over its operation more than $8 million has gone back into the community, from the lake dredging project to the Aquatic Park and the lake restoration fund, and the store generates roughly $400,000 in annual profits that stay in Fairmont.
