Permits and inspections
Building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical work inside the city limits is permitted and inspected by the City.
No boil water notice is in effect. Water across the system is safe to drink. Past notices
Before you start
When you need a permit
New construction or an addition
A new house, a garage, a shop, a carport, an addition to any of them, or a structure being moved onto a lot.
Plumbing, electrical or mechanical work
New service, a replacement panel or unit, a re-pipe, or a connection to the City water or sewer system.
Demolition or a moved building
Taking a structure down, or bringing one in on a trailer.
Dividing or replatting land
A plat, a replat or a lot line change goes to the Council after review.
A short-term rental
Renting a property nightly or weekly inside the city limits requires a license from the City.
Getting an application
Applications and fee schedules are issued by City Hall. Bring the plans and the site plan with the application; an incomplete application cannot be scheduled for inspection.

Inspections
Booking an inspection
Inspections are booked against an open permit, so the permit number is the first thing asked for. Call City Hall to schedule, and allow a working day.
Work covered up before it is inspected has to be opened again, at the owner's cost. That is why the framing, rough plumbing and rough electrical inspections all happen before insulation goes in.
