How do I record a deed or search land records?

When Same day at the counter, with a month-end cutoff

Documents presented after 3:30 p.m. on the last day of a month are recorded the next business day; the December cutoff is 10 a.m.

Deeds, mortgages, releases, liens, plats, and surveys are recorded at the Register of Deeds in the courthouse. The office indexes and copies records but does not do title searches.

What to do

  1. Check the document requirements: legible, with room for the recording stamp, and a sales validation questionnaire with a deed.
  2. Bring the document and the recording fee from the fee schedule.
  3. Copies are one dollar a page.
