Emergency Management
How do I find out if a property is in the floodplain?
Map first, then a call
When Before you build or buy
A floodplain permit is required before construction in a mapped floodplain. The maps were updated for the Lower Solomon and Saline in 2023.
The state's floodplain map shows whether a parcel is in a mapped floodplain. Building there needs a permit from the community's floodplain administrator, or from the County outside city limits.
What to do
- Search the address on the Kansas floodplain map.
- Outside a city, the County is the floodplain administrator: call David Dohe at 785-534-0624.
- In Beloit, Cawker City, Glen Elder, or Hunter, call the city's administrator; Tipton and Scottsville are not in the floodplain and Simpson has opted out of the program.
- Download and complete the floodplain development permit before construction.
