Request a Public Record
Under the Texas Public Information Act, the City's records belong to the public. Most of the ones people ask for are already on this site.

It may already be published.
Budgets, audits, ordinances, tax rate worksheets, agendas, packets, signed minutes, notices and forms are all posted, and the search on this site reads the text inside the documents rather than only their titles.
If it is a Council meeting you are after, every agenda, packet, minute and recording since 2018 is filed by meeting.
Making a request
A request goes in writing to the City Secretary. Describe the records you want as specifically as you can: a date range, a subject, a project name. A narrow request is answered faster and costs less.

How the Act works
What to expect
Ten business days
If the City cannot produce the records within ten business days it must tell you in writing and give a date when it can.
You do not have to say why
A requestor is not required to explain what the records are for, and the City does not ask.
Charges
Copies and, for large requests, staff time may be charged at the rates set by the Texas Attorney General. The City tells you the estimate before the work starts if it is over the statutory threshold.
Records the City must withhold
Some categories are excepted: an open criminal investigation, certain personnel matters, attorney-client material. If the City believes information is excepted it asks the Attorney General for a ruling and tells you it has done so.
Records the City does not have
The Act covers records that exist. The City is not required to answer a question, produce a report it has never made, or create a new document.
