How to ride County Express

From finding your stop to getting off at Gilroy or back in Hollister, here is the whole trip in order.

  1. Find your stop

Intercounty stops at Vets Park, 4th & San Benito, 4th & Miller, and Abbe Park in San Juan Bautista before continuing to Gilroy. The Tripper loop has eight lettered stops around Hollister. See every stop on the timetables.

  2. Check the schedule

Buses run Monday to Friday 5:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. There is no Sunday service. Find your next departure.

  3. Wait at the stop and flag the bus

Arrive a few minutes early. The schedule lists when the bus is due at each stop, not a live tracker, so give yourself a margin, especially for a connection at Gilroy.

  4. Pay when you board

Have exact fare ready. Intercounty and Dial-A-Ride are $2.00 one way for an adult, $1.25 for youth, seniors, and riders with a disability. The Tripper is $1.00 for an adult, $0.50 for youth, seniors, and riders with a disability, and is cash only. Children age 4 and under ride free with a fare-paying passenger. Full fares, tokens, and passes.

  5. Ask for a transfer if you're connecting

Transfers between local fixed routes are free and valid for two hours. Ask the driver for one when you board, and hand it to the driver on your next bus.

  6. Riding to Gilroy

Intercounty trips continue to Gavilan College, where Santa Clara VTA connects, and to the Caltrain station. On weekends, County Express connects with Greyhound at the same terminal instead.

  7. Get off at your stop

Signal the driver ahead of your stop the same way you would on any local bus, and check that you have everything with you before you step off.

  8. Traveling with a mobility device

If you use a mobility device or have a question about boarding equipment on a specific bus, call County Express dispatch at 831-636-4161 before you ride. Riders who cannot use the fixed route at all may qualify for ADA paratransit or specialized transportation instead. Paratransit and eligibility.
