In the life cycle of plants, seeds play a vital role as the new plant begins. If the seed is viable, if it is good and is exposed to a favorable environment, it germinates, sprouting into existence. For life to spring forth from an outwardly looking hard, dried, dead-looking object is virtually incomprehensible, almost like magic. Germination – A Good Seed is set in a ”slice” of textured earth. First comes a root from the swollen seed, pushing downward to establish a foundation for the plant. Soon the roots will be followed by an upward thrusting seedling to continue the amazing cycle. Over 70 different types of seeds are represented in the sculpture’s texture.
