Art on the Corner

Twenty-two new sculptures went up for the exhibit’s fortieth year, juried by George Turner, one of the founding sculptors, and Justin Squier. Three of them are Colorado Mesa University student pieces. All of them are for sale.

Bulrush

Bulrush was created from recycled steel. It is my personal interpretation of an urban wetland. Cattails are nature’s regenerators. They colonize disturbed wetlands, extracting pollutants and support ecosystems to a healthy state. I like the idea of nature and downtown colliding!

Desert Dancers II

Dropsy

Dropsy is a bronze and stainless steel contemporary abstract sculpture. The sculpture was inspired by the medical condition where fluid fills the space between cells in the body causing swelling. The mirror polished stainless orb represents the fluid and the massive slabs represent the cell walls. The orb is tilted and the slabs are curved giving the impression that the orb is applying pressure to the slabs.
