I capture the fragility and intricacies that are overlooked in nature. In both two-dimensional and three-dimensional works. I take a naturalistic approach to prioritize organic form in flora and fauna. To survive in our world, trees will ground themselves to cliffsides by latching their root systems into minute cracks. Mushrooms will feed off of decay for nutrients. Octopi have evolved to blend into their surroundings. I strive to create an opportunity to appreciate the subtleties in nature. I am currently working on interactive pieces that explore the parts of nature that tend to be forgotten. Wind chimes have recently been incorporated into my metal work to experiment with the qualities of wind and sound. My ceramic work consists of vessels that resemble the patterns of mushrooms. These patterns, though easily missed, possess eye catching and attractive qualities. In the two-dimensional aspect of my work, I utilize printmaking to depict how fauna blends into nature only to be seen after it is diligently sought. My goal is to share how I perceive nature through my own experiences. Ayla is one of three CMU students selected for this year’s exhibit.
