Highlighting Data & Resources at CHFA

CHFA’s published chart of Connecticut home sales volume against median sale price.

Summer may be in full swing, but things are just as busy over at CHFA. A number of you have reached out in recent weeks about housing data and research. While we love hearing from you, we thought we’d provide a quick roundup of some of our more popular self-service data resources. From dashboards and impact maps to in-depth housing market analysis, this post will zero in on just some of the information available at your fingertips on CHFA’s website.

Are you interested in learning more about the mortgage and housing market in Connecticut? CHFA has imported 14 years’ worth of Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data for exploration. This data set combines more than 2.5 million mortgage application records to allow for in-depth analysis on lending trends. Curious what the leading cause for a mortgage denial has been over the past 5 years? Or what the average loan amount has been in your town? The HMDA Dashboard will have an answer. The dashboard is updated on a yearly basis as HMDA data becomes available.

If you’re looking for more specific data, check out the CHFA First-Time Homebuyer Profile dashboard which provides data spanning five years of lending activity. Updated weekly, this dashboard provides a snapshot of CHFA’s homebuyer customer demographics. Filter by county, Council of Government (COG), municipality, or even by lender to see where and how CHFA is supporting homeownership in your area.

Are you a town planner with questions on CHFA’s presence in your community? Curious to know what affordable housing looks like in your neighborhood? Check out the CHFA Impact Map. This tool illustrates our organization’s impact and investment throughout the state. Click an area of the map or enter a specific address to explore CHFA and census data for your area of interest. For more information on the impact map, check out our guidance here.

Lenders, realtors, and prospective homebuyers should definitely know about the CHFA Resource Map. A one-stop-shop for assisting in determining eligibility for our homeownership programs, this map provides information on income and sales price limits, targeted areas, and CHFA participating HUD housing counselors.

If you have a pressing data question and can’t find the answer on our website, please reach out to us at research@chfa.org. We are happy to provide answers to housing-related questions or direct you to an appropriate resource.
