Paying for college
Paying for Southwest Tech
Financial aid, grants, loans, work study, and Southwest Tech Foundation scholarships help pay tuition, fees, housing, food, and books.
How tuition works
Tuition is charged per credit and set by the Wisconsin Technical College System, so it can change year to year. For 2026-2027:
- Associate degree, technical diploma, certificate, and vocational adult courses: $157.45 per credit for Wisconsin residents and online classes; $236.18 per credit for out-of-state residents.
- University Transfer (liberal arts) courses: $196.05 per credit for Wisconsin residents and online classes; $294.08 per credit for out-of-state residents.
- Minnesota residents pay the Wisconsin resident rate under the state reciprocity agreement; Southwest Tech also has program-specific reciprocity agreements with NICC and HCC.
- A $40 late fee applies 10 days after the term start date, or 10 days after your financial aid disbursement date if you're receiving aid.
Exact cost by program, required fees, and full payment policy live in the published catalog.

Financial aid
Financial aid can come as federal or state grants, federal work study, and federal student loans, and there's no cost to apply. Most students start with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The documents below cover how aid is awarded, disbursed, and what happens if your enrollment changes.

Scholarships
The Southwest Tech Foundation awards scholarships that reduce the cost of attending. Financial aid staff can help you find and apply for scholarship money alongside grants and loans.
Veterans and military benefits
Southwest Tech is approved by the Wisconsin State Approving Agency to train veterans under the Veterans Educational Benefits Act (GI Bill®) and eligible dependents of deceased or disabled veterans. The College does not determine eligibility for veterans benefits; the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs does. Veterans benefits do not exclude you from also receiving financial aid or scholarships. Active-duty service members and their families also qualify for in-state tuition rates.
Paying your bill
Bills and tuition statements go out by email only, and are viewed and paid through MySWTC, Southwest Tech's own student portal, online, by phone, in person, or by mail. This preview site does not process payments; use MySWTC or contact the Financial Aid office directly.
