Getting in

Parking, Entrances, and Elevators

The Authority describes the Center as ADA-compliant and built for full access from the start, not retrofitted onto it.

  • Entrances Ramps at all entrances, with curb cuts at the drop-off points.
  • Parking Ample designated disabled parking, with several passenger drop-off areas near the doors.
  • Elevators Braille instructions on the elevators.

Inside

Restrooms, Wheelchairs, and Service Animals

  • Restrooms Accessible restroom facilities throughout the building, not only near the entrances.
  • Service animals Trained and certified guide dogs and service animals are welcome. Their owner is responsible for them on site.

Borrowing a Wheelchair

A limited number of manual push wheelchairs are free to use while you're in the building.

  1. Bring a state ID

    Held along with a phone number as the deposit.

  2. Leave a phone number

    Required along with the ID.

  3. Return it to the information desk

    You get your ID back when the chair comes back.

Safety

In an Emergency

If the fire alarm sounds, everyone evacuates by the nearest safe exit. The Authority's own procedure asks people to help each other on the way out.

Severe weather. A warning goes out by text, email, app push, and phone call, plus the building's public address system, not only a spoken announcement. The Authority's procedure also directs staff to help guide people with disabilities and other visitors who need it to a safe sheltering area, on the lowest floor, away from windows and doors. Elevators are not used during a tornado warning.

Built for Keyboard and Screen Reader Use

This site targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Every control works from a keyboard, headings are structured so a screen reader can jump between them, and text meets contrast minimums in both of the site's two rooms, harbor and river. We have not commissioned a formal accessibility audit of this build.
