Solomon Rapids
Where the county was organized: the 1870 stockade, the grist mill on the rapids, and the first election.
The place
In the spring of 1870 settlers built a stockade three quarters of a mile west of the townsite, and a post office opened that August. That fall the governor appointed Don Peaslee of Solomon Rapids Special County Clerk to run the election that organized Mitchell County.
