The District
In 1992, the North Missouri Solid Waste Management District was formed. The Solid Waste Management District was created after the Missouri General Assembly passed Revised Statutes of Missouri Chapter 260, a comprehensive revision of the Missouri Solid Waste Management Law.
This goal is accomplished through recycling, solid waste source reduction, public education, and through working with other partners to sponsor projects which remove wastes from the waste stream. The Solid Waste Management District meets quarterly throughout the year, and usually does so in conjunction with Green Hills Regional Planning Commission Board of Directors meetings.
Executive Board
An 11-member Executive Board governs the district. Executive Board meetings are generally held quarterly on the third Thursday of the month at 11 a.m. at the Green Hills Regional Planning Commission offices located at 810 Washington Street, Trenton, Missouri. Dates and locations are subject to change.
- Chairperson Jack Hodge
- Vice Chairperson Ed Douglas
- Secretary/Treasurer Chris May
Board of Directors
This council of local elected and appointed officials provides guidance in development of solid waste management policies. The Board of Director meetings are generally held bi-yearly (in conjunction with the Executive Board) on the third Thursday of the month at the Green Hills Regional Planning Commission offices located at 810 Washington Street, Trenton, Missouri. Grants and minutes
District grants
The purpose of the District Grant program is to provide financial assistance to cities, counties, non-profits and other organizations that will develop new or improved programs that will reduce the generation of solid waste or will create new markets or improve markets for recovered material or will improve the handling of items banned from landfills by Missouri law. It is the intent that these funds are awarded to sub-grantees for projects that will be sustainable and will lead to long term diversion. The purpose of the solid waste management districts is to fund projects with maximum impact on waste minimization and to create and sustain jobs directly related to the project.
