Water Quality
Brushy Creek MUD is proud to be recognized as a Superior Public Water System by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) since 2006.
A Superior Public Water System Since 2006
The TCEQ recognizes overall excellence in the operation of a public water system by designating a system as “Superior” if it meets the stringent criteria set forth; this is the highest level attainable. To earn this designation, a system must meet and maintain a higher set of standards than are required of all public water systems.
The District diverts raw water from Lake Georgetown pursuant to a water supply agreement with the Brazos River Authority (BRA).
Awards
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) determined on July 25, 2025, that Brushy Creek MUD qualified to receive the Innovative or Proactive Water System Award, the Outstanding Public Drinking Water System Award, and the Water System Security Program Award.
The Outstanding Public Drinking Water System Award recognizes systems that maintain exemplary water quality, operational performance, and compliance, ensuring safe and reliable drinking water for the public.
The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District the 2019 Water Fluoridation Quality Award for maintaining a consistent level of optimally fluoridated water.
If the Water Tastes, Smells or Looks Different
Public water systems are required to properly disinfect their water and maintain an adequate disinfectant residual in the distribution system.
- Taste or odor? Store tap water in an open container in the fridge to let chlorine dissipate. Carbon filters also help.
- Cloudy or discolored water? Run cold water (preferably from a bathtub or outdoor faucet) for several minutes.
This is a widely used practice and is recommended by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
