Choose Seats See What Else Is On

The Wheeler Opera House on its street corner: three storeys of rusticated peachblow sandstone, round-arched windows on the top floor, a dentil cornice and pedimented gable, navy awnings over the shopfronts at street level, with Aspen Mountain rising behind it.

Inside the house

A room built for 475 voices

The Wheeler’s balcony, proscenium, and orchestra are the room behind every seat choice. See the house before you choose a night.

475 Seats, Since 1889

Jerome B. Wheeler built this house on silver money at the head of the Roaring Fork Valley. W. J. Edbrooke drew it in local peachblow sandstone from the Frying Pan Valley, round-arched and rusticated, and Aspen has been arguing about what to put on its stage ever since.

Silver collapsed in 1893. Fire closed the house in 1912. The City has owned it since 1918, restored it to its 1889 room, and reopened it in 1984. It seats 475 people, which is small enough that the back row can hear a whisper and large enough to bring in the people who can fill it.
