Wheeler Opera House
Jerome B. Wheeler built this house on silver money at the head of the Roaring Fork Valley. W. J. Edbrooke drew it in local peachblow sandstone from the Frying Pan Valley, round-arched and rusticated, and Aspen has been arguing about what to put on its stage ever since.
Silver collapsed in 1893. Fire closed the house in 1912. The City has owned it since 1918, restored it to its 1889 room, and reopened it in 1984. It seats 475 people, which is small enough that the back row can hear a whisper and large enough to bring in the people who can fill it.
Aspen Show Tix is the Wheeler box office working for the rest of town. One account, one basket, one place to find what is on tonight, wherever it is happening.
The Wheeler is on the corner of Hyman and Mill, in the middle of downtown Aspen.
Step-free entry, wheelchair spaces with companion seating on the orchestra level, and assistive listening at the box office. Tell us what you need when you book and we will hold the right seat.
