Up North
The airport sits between Grand Traverse Bay and the Lake Michigan shore, with the Leelanau and Old Mission peninsulas either side of the water and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore running north from Empire. Most of what people come for is within an hour of the terminal curb.
The Grand Traverse Lighthouse at the point, fishing shanties at Leland, orchards and vineyards the length of the peninsula, and small harbors most of the way up.

Charlevoix, Elk Rapids, Suttons Bay, and Northport sit on the water around the bay. Charlevoix has been a visitor favorite for more than a hundred years.

East of the bay, Gaylord is woods, rivers, inland lakes, and sixteen golf courses. In winter, people come for the ski hills.
