Accessibility
How this site is built to be usable by everyone, and how to tell the City when it is not.
This site is built to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. If any part of it does not work for you, the City wants to hear about it.
What the City Commits To on Every Page
- Every page has one main landmark, a skip link, and a logical heading order.
- Interactive controls have a visible focus ring and a target at least 24 pixels on a side.
- Color is never the only way information is given.
- Text meets AA contrast at every size used, in both the light chrome and the dark bands.
- Motion is limited, and it stops entirely under a reduced-motion preference.
- The primary reading and navigation path works without JavaScript.
Testing
Automated testing runs against every page at desktop and mobile widths. Manual keyboard and screen-reader testing and an independent WCAG 2.2 AA audit go further, because automated checks alone cannot tell whether a page makes sense.
Documents
The City remediates its PDFs and other documents with DocAccess, and a remediated document keeps its accessible text when it is published here. If you need a document in another format, ask and the City will provide one.
What Is Not Done Yet
An accessibility statement that lists only successes is not much use. These are the known gaps:
- Documents published before the City's remediation program are not all tagged. Ask for one in another format and the City will provide it.
- Payments, permits, recreation registration, and problem reports finish inside systems the City does not control. The City can raise a barrier with those vendors but cannot fix their pages.
- Maps and geographic data are hard to convey without sight. Where a map carries information, the same information is given in text nearby.
