Beyond Big Tech

In partnership with AI Now

California has always created the conditions where two people with a great idea in someone’s garage can compete with behemoth, legacy corporations. This environment of competition, disruption, and technological innovation challenged the old order and birthed an industry that is the envy of the world. But the current trajectory of the tech industry is consolidating—not expanding—California’s innovation ecosystem, and actively working against the interests of everyday people.

California’s next generation of leaders can and must create the economic conditions for a pro-competition and people-first version of AI and the tech sector overall. This memo holds recommendations for how to do that.
