Building permits

What needs a permit, what doesn't, and how to apply, with the Village's actual repair thresholds.

How to apply

  1. Draw your project on a copy of your plat of survey. Most projects require one, to scale.
  2. Gather contractor licenses. Electrical, plumbing, and roofing contractors must include license copies. In an HOA? Include the HOA's project approval letter.
  3. Submit in person, by mail, or by email to buildingdept@roundlakeil.gov.
  4. Allow 5–10 business days for review. It may take longer if an outside agency has to look at it.

The Village's full list is searchable from any page (try typing “shed” or “solar” in the header).
