The basics
- Every household gets one 95-gallon refuse cart and one 65-gallon recycling cart at no charge.
- Carts at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your collection day; all garbage inside the cart.
- Extra carts are available for a fee billed directly by Groot. Call (847) 693-2700.
Yard waste & food scraps April 1 – November 30
Collection runs on your regular pickup day during the season. Three ways to set it out:
| Option | How it works |
|---|---|
| Stickers: $3.00 each | Buy at Village Hall (442 N. Cedar Lake Rd) or Ace Hardware (659 Railroad Ave) starting mid-March. Stick one on each container or kraft bag (max 32 gallons / 50 lbs each). |
| Limited seasonal program | Up to 6 containers or kraft bags per pickup, subscribed through Groot. |
| Unlimited seasonal program | Unlimited containers or kraft bags, subscribed through Groot. |
For an additional fee you can commingle food scraps with landscape waste. Branches that won't fit a container must be tied with biodegradable twine in bundles up to 4 ft long and 24 in around.
Already enrolled in a seasonal program? It renews automatically. Contact Groot at (847) 693-2700 to opt out.
Bulk items & Christmas trees
- One bulk item per week is free: boxes, crates, furniture, anything one driver can lift. No appliances, tires, batteries, TVs, or electronics (those are banned from landfill disposal).
- Oversized items (a piano, a hot tub, anything needing two people) require a scheduled Groot special pickup for an additional fee.
- Christmas trees are collected free on your regular day, January 2–25.
Note for reviewers Garbage rules are one of the most-searched things on any village site, so this page is written task-first, every number is the Village's published one, and “trash,” “basura,” and “missed pickup” all land here through search. Collection days vary by route; the production build would link Groot's address lookup rather than guess.
