Accessibility
Jefferson County Library is committed to a website that works for every resident, including people who use assistive technology, keyboards instead of a mouse, or screen readers.
Our standard
We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. That standard guides every page on this site, from the search box to the events calendar.
What that means in practice
- Every page can be navigated and used with a keyboard alone, with no mouse required.
- A visible focus outline shows where you are as you tab through links, buttons, and form fields.
- Headings, landmarks, and labels are marked up so screen readers can navigate the page, not just read it top to bottom.
- Photos carry meaningful alt text, and any video we post carries captions.
- Motion and animation respect your device's reduced-motion setting, so nothing moves if you've asked your system not to.
- Buttons, links, and form controls are at least 44 by 44 pixels, so they're easy to hit accurately on a touchscreen.
Accessible services at the library
Accessibility isn't only a website commitment. Every branch offers services built for residents who need them:

Large print books, hand-held magnifiers, audiobooks, wheelchairs, and a free delivery service for homebound patrons.

Homebound Delivery
Books on the Run delivers materials free to residents who are temporarily or permanently unable to visit a branch.
Large print books, hand-held magnifiers, audiobooks, large-screen computer monitors, and rolling walkers are available at branches, with a desktop magnifier at the Northwest Branch and a motorized scooter at the Windsor Branch. Wolfner Library applications for blind and physically handicapped patrons are available at every branch.
