Catherine Bracy

Catherine Bracy is a civic technologist and community organizer whose work focuses on the intersection of technology and political and economic inequality.

She is the CEO of TechEquity, an organization she founded in 2016 to answer a simple but ambitious question: what would it take for the growth of the tech industry to benefit everyone? Today, TechEquity combines research and advocacy to address how tech intersects with kitchen-table economic issues like jobs and affordability.

In her first book, WORLD EATERS: How Venture Capital is Cannibalizing the Economy (Dutton, 2025), Catherine provides an eye-opening account of the existing venture capital ethos, how it harms us all, and proposes a new way forward to create an innovation ecosystem that benefits investors and society at the same time.

Catherine was previously Code for America’s senior director of Partnerships and Ecosystem, and founded Code for All. During the 2012 election cycle she was director of Obama for America’s Technology Field Office in San Francisco, the first of its kind in American political history.

She is on the board of directors at the Terner Housing Lab. Catherine’s work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, and NPR—and her popular TED Talk, “Why Good Hackers Make Good Citizens,” has almost one million views.
