Admissions

Applying to GSSM, step by step

Most students apply during their 10th-grade year to join the residential program as juniors. Here is the shape of the process from first question to decision day.

Representative outline Dates and requirements below illustrate the redesign; applicants should confirm current details at scgssm.org.

The process

  1. Step 01

    Come meet us, from anywhere

Join a virtual information session to meet admissions staff and current students, and bring your questions about academics, dorm life, and what changes for your family.

  2. Step 02

    Check eligibility

Applicants are South Carolina residents with strong preparation in math and science. Your school counselor can help you gauge fit, and our staff will too.

  3. Step 03

    Apply online

The application gathers your transcript, recommendations, and short essays. Save a draft and return as often as you like before submitting.

  4. Step 04

    Interview and selection

Selected applicants are invited to interview. We are reading for curiosity and persistence, not just grades.

  5. Step 05

    Decision and enrollment

Admitted students confirm enrollment, then meet their future classmates at orientation events before move‑in weekend.

Virtual information sessions

Sessions run online in the evening so families anywhere in the state can join without a drive to Hartsville. Each session covers academics, residential life, and the application timeline, with time for questions.

Not ready for two years away?

Plenty of GSSM students started with a summer. GoSciTech camps and the Online Program are both front doors to the same school.
