Southwestern Oregon Workforce Investment Board

Training and hiring help, county by county

Coos, Curry and Douglas are four hours apart over the Coast Range, so what is open to you depends on which one you are in. That is where this site starts.

Brookings and Roseburg are about four hours apart over the Coast Range, so what is within reach depends on which county you are in. Every county page lists what is open there.

WorkSource Curry is at 16261 Highway 101 S. in Brookings. Umpqua Community College is at 1140 Umpqua College Rd. in Roseburg. SOWIB already staffs this way: its youth advisors are assigned by county, and Douglas is split again into South Douglas, North Douglas and Roseburg.

The record

Nine years of local labor-market data, readable as a series

SOWIB has published monthly economic indicators since 2017: 103 reports of real regional data. The series has been re-cut geographically more than once, and here those changes are stitched so each county reads as one continuous record.

Apprenticeships

What you can apply for, county by county

SOWIB runs four registered apprenticeships, and each one opens and pauses by county as its applicant pool fills. This table carries all four answers in one place, each read from the program's own page.

Apprenticeship application status by county, quoted from each program page.
Apprenticeship Coos Curry Douglas
Early Childhood Education Childcare Accepting Accepting Paused
Medical Assistant Healthcare Accepting Accepting Accepting
Surgical Technologist Healthcare Not stated Not stated Paused
Nurse Faculty Healthcare Not stated Not stated Not stated

Every cell is read from the program page’s own words. “Not stated” means that page names the county neither as open nor as paused. The Surgical Technologist page does this to Coos and Curry, two of SOWIB’s own three counties. Nothing here is inferred.

What this funds

Seven sectors this board funds

Healthcare, transportation, manufacturing, hospitality and tourism, childcare, construction and maritime. SOWIB opens maritime and blue economy funding to Coos, Curry and Coastal Douglas counties, and its news record reports the closure of the Roseburg Forest Products facility in Dillard and the federal money that followed it. These are the sectors the region is moving between, and the training this board funds follows them.
