Accessibility

This site is built to be used by everyone, including people using a keyboard alone, a screen reader, magnification, or a phone in bright sun. Where it falls short, the City wants to hear it.

Built to WCAG 2.2 AA

Every page is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.2, at level AA. In practice that means:

  • Every page works from the keyboard alone, in a visible order, with a skip link to the main content.
  • Text meets contrast at the size it is actually rendered, on every background it appears on.
  • Buttons, links, and form controls are large enough to hit on a phone.
  • Photographs carry descriptions; decoration is hidden from screen readers.
  • Headings, landmarks, lists, and tables carry real structure rather than styling that looks like it.
  • Nothing depends on color alone, on hovering, or on a mouse.
  • Pages work with JavaScript switched off, and animation respects a reduced-motion setting.

No Overlay

This site does not use an accessibility overlay, toolbar, or widget. Accessibility is built into the pages themselves, so it works with the assistive technology a visitor already has set up rather than asking them to learn a second one.
