The Camellia City

Slidell began in 1882 as a railroad camp on the first high ground north of Lake Pontchartrain, and it has been a city of that ground ever since. This is where its services, its Council, its calendar, and its records live.

Storm and Flood

Slidell floods from three directions: storm surge off the Gulf, Bayou Bonfouca backing up out of an inundated Lake Pontchartrain, and drainage that fills faster than it empties in a heavy rain. It can happen in any season.

Because the land is low and flat, no part of the city is outside that risk. The City does not publish a property-by-property lookup, so the useful first move is a phone call.
