How Sharon Community Development Corporation Began

Sharon Community Development Corporation grew out of a city-envisioning retreat in March 2021. Its long-term goal is to assist the City of Sharon with both economic and community development, with an initial focus on downtown economic development.
SCDC's By-Laws are unusual in one respect: they give the City Manager a standing voting seat on the board, on an ongoing basis, so City government has a direct voice in SCDC's operations and affairs. The board also plans to establish an Advisory Council.
Day to day, the work runs through an Executive Committee and six Standing Committees: Finance & Revenue, Marketing and Communications, Business Development, Beautification, Design, and ad hoc committees as needed. A 14-member volunteer board sets the direction; staff carry it out day to day.
SCDC is growing into its own public home, with its own voice for downtown revitalization, business support, and community storytelling.
