Incorporated 1841

Sharon became a borough on March 23, 1841. It became a city in 1920.

Sharon Iron Co., 1887

Frank H. Buhl managed Sharon Iron Company from 1887. Buhl Steel followed in 1896.

270 acres, since 1915

Buhl Park has 270 acres. Its free 9-hole golf course is a local landmark.

Chocolate since 1949

Daffin's has made chocolate in Sharon since 1949. Its Chocolate Kingdom is a downtown stop.

13 seasons on the river

WaterFire Sharon lit the Shenango 29 times from 2013 to 2025. It closed with a farewell for its volunteers.

Build on Main Street

Storefront by storefront, SCDC is reinvesting in downtown

This program sits under SCDC's Physical Improvements pillar. It helps property and business owners invest in downtown storefronts on East and West State Street.

Business support partners

SCDC works with Penn-Northwest and LaunchBox. Penn-Northwest supports economic development in Mercer County. LaunchBox supports small businesses through Penn State.

A connected region

Sharon sits near I-80, I-79, and I-76. It is part of the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman metro area, with a labor pool of more than 500,000 within reach.

A young nonprofit for downtown Sharon

Sharon Community Development Corporation (SCDC) grew out of a city-envisioning retreat in March 2021. Its By-Laws give the City Manager a standing voting seat on the board, alongside 14 community volunteers.
