Craig A. Baldwin Saugatuck, MI 49453

December 12, 2024 Saugatuck City Council 102 Butler St. Saugatuck, MI 49453 To the City Council: I am writing to apply for the open seat on the Saugatuck Planning Commission that was created by the recent resignation of Commissioner Broeker. My resume is attached for your consideration. My professional experience includes a nearly 30-year career in intellectual property law, both in private practice and as in-house counsel. Most recently, I served as Chief Intellectual Property Counsel at Aptiv (formerly Delphi Automotive) where I managed a multi-national team of attorneys and para-professionals for a roughly $20B company. After deciding to retire in 2021, I began paying close attention to a variety of high profile matters being considered by the Saugatuck Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. To increase my understanding of these issues I enrolled in the Citizen Planner training program at Michigan State University and completed the program in November, 2022. In the process I have become very familiar with Saugatuck’s zoning ordinances and zoning map, the Tri-Community Master Plan, our city charter, and also the Planning Enabling Act and Zoning Enabling Act. My desire to serve on the Planning Commission stems from my belief that in a small town like Saugatuck, it is essential that those with the time and talent to serve the city must find ways to do so. I would be honored if my service to the city includes being chosen for the Planning Commission. Thank you.

Sincerely, Craig A. Baldwin
