Accessibility
A website every resident can use.
The City of Louisiana is committed to making its website work for everyone, including residents using a screen reader, a keyboard, a magnifier, or an older phone. Accessibility is a service, not an afterthought.
The standard we build to
This site is designed and tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, the current international standard and a superset of WCAG 2.1 AA, the baseline the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II sets for state and local government websites. Building to 2.2 AA meets that legal floor with room to spare.
- Text and background colors meet AA contrast (at least 4.5:1 for body text).
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline.
- Every page declares its language and has one clear main heading.
- Images carry meaningful alternative text for screen readers.
- Buttons and links have generous tap targets for touch and motor accessibility.
- Motion respects your device's “reduce motion” setting, the still version is the default.
- The layout reflows to a single column on a phone and up to 400% zoom.
