Founded in 1979, DREDF is a leading national civil rights law and policy center directed by individuals with disabilities and parents who have children with disabilities. DREDF envisions a just world where all people, with and without disabilities, live full and independent lives free of discrimination, and the organization seeks to realize this vision by confronting the deeply embedded prejudice, paternalism, and economic and social disenfranchisement suffered by Americans with disabilities. Guided by core principles of equality of opportunity, disability accommodation, accessibility, and inclusion, DREDF’s mission is to advance the civil and human rights of people with disabilities through legal advocacy, training, education, and public policy and legislative development.
