    Accessibility

    Lake Township is committed to a website everyone can use, including residents who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, or magnification.

    Our commitment

    Lake Township is working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA (a superset of the 2.1 AA legal floor). This concept redesign was built to that standard: clear headings, strong color contrast, a body typeface (Atkinson Hyperlegible) designed for legibility, large touch targets, full keyboard support, and plain language.

    What we have done

    High-contrast color

    Strong contrast throughout the entire site, meeting WCAG AA standards for text and interactive elements.

    Clear heading structure

    One clear hierarchy of headings per page so screen readers can navigate logically.

    Visible keyboard focus

    Keyboard users can always see which element is focused, and all links and buttons are keyboard accessible.

    Legible typeface

    Atkinson Hyperlegible is designed specifically for readability at any size, especially for low vision users.

    Large touch targets

    All buttons and interactive elements are at least 24px, making them easy to tap on any device.

    Plain language

    No jargon or unnecessary complexity. Questions get straight answers so all residents understand the Township.

    Mobile-friendly reflow

    Content reflows at any zoom level and screen size with no horizontal scrolling.

    Skip to main content

    Screen reader users can skip repetitive navigation and jump straight to the page content.

    Answer-first front desk

    Ask the Township gets you answers immediately so you never dig through document lists to find what you need.

    Older PDFs and records

    Many older Township records are PDFs. We are working to make documents accessible and to provide an alternative on request. If you need a record in another format, contact the Township Clerk and we will help.
