The portal's value is connection: it brings authoritative water data from many agencies into one place, without replacing any of them. Here is what feeds it, and how.
Connected and planned sources
Integration approach
- Read-only connectors to each source's public API or service — the portal never becomes the system of record.
- A normalization layer maps every source to common site, reading, and geography models, so a new source is a configuration, not a rebuild.
- Compatibility-first with the IGIO Esri Enterprise portal (ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5), consuming the State's map and feature services read-only so authoritative GIS layers stay authoritative.
- The DNR Salesforce database is the authoritative source for well log and significant-withdrawal records; the portal reads it through a scheduled, read-only connector.
- Scheduled refresh with provenance: every value carries its source and timestamp, on a cadence recommended per source.
- Designed for self-service growth: administrators register a standard source (a REST endpoint, a file drop, or an ArcGIS service) and set its cadence without code.
Out of scope, by design
- Replacing existing agency databases.
- Deploying new monitoring infrastructure.
- Statewide water allocation or regulatory systems.
By design, this is a public-facing data and dashboard layer, not a database or regulatory rewrite. The agencies' own systems stay the systems of record.
