Working prototype by Stoa Works — a concept for Indiana's On-line Water Data Portal, not the official State site.
Indiana WaterData Portal · concept

Accessibility

A public water portal has to work for everyone. This concept is built to WCAG 2.1 AA, the standard a State of Indiana production system would be expected to meet.

Our commitment

Public water information should reach every Hoosier, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, switch devices, or screen magnification. This prototype is designed and tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

What that means here

  • Every page uses semantic landmarks and a visible “skip to content” link.
  • Color is never the only signal — text and labels carry meaning, and contrast meets AA.
  • The map and every chart ship a hidden, fully labeled data table so the same information is available without sight.
  • All controls are keyboard reachable with visible focus, and touch targets are at least 24×24 pixels.
  • Motion is reduced automatically when a visitor prefers reduced motion.

Testing

Automated checks (axe-core, including best-practice rules) run across desktop and mobile route checks; the current result is zero violations on every page, supplemented by manual keyboard and screen-reader passes.

Found a barrier? A production portal would publish a monitored contact here. This is a concept by Stoa Works; reach Stoa at stoa.works.
