EAST RIDGE, TN Required Building Inspections We have many people who come into the office and obtain a building permit who do not understand the necessary process to follow. Following is a list of the basic steps needed to be taken to ensure that a project is constructed in the safest and best way possible. 1. Obtain a permit application for your project. We have both Residential and Commercial permits available in the office and on line at www.eastridgetn.gov 2. Upon completion of your application, submit it to the Building Inspections Office with drawings, if residential, or two sets of signed and sealed Commercial plans. The State of Tennessee Fire Marshall’s Office requires drawings and plans in order for the city to issue permits. Plan review fees will be required at this time too. Plan review fee is 30% of the building permit fee. Please see Fee Schedule. 3. The review process will normally be complete in 5-7 working days for residential and 10-14 working days for commercial plans. You will be contacted by this office when the application is approved. 4. Fee for the building permit will be due when the permit is picked up in the office. According to Tennessee state law and the State Fire Marshall’s Office whoever is doing the work, or their designated individual, will be required to sign and pick up the permit. 5.
