School Crossing Guard Department East Ridge Police Department Summarized Description The primary responsibility of a school crossing guard is to ensure the safe passage of students and pedestrians across designated streets and intersections near schools. Duties include stopping vehicles when necessary and guiding children, parents, and other pedestrians safely through crosswalks. Crossing guards must remain alert and vigilant and communicate effectively with children, motorists, and school staff. They also report unsafe conditions, incidents, or suspicious activity to appropriate authorities. This role requires punctuality, reliability, and the ability to work outdoors in ALL weather conditions. Required Qualifications • 18 years of age or older; • Possess a Valid Driver’s License ; • High School Diploma; • Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
