2026

  1. Virginia Drought Status

The drought watch for our region has now been lifted. However, I still, and will always, encourage the town’s water customers to be mindful of their water usage. I personally feel that our generation has a responsibility to future Chilhowie residents to safeguard our precious resources and not take it for granted.

  2. Virginia Drought Status

I have attached the most recent drought monitor map for Virginia. As you can see, the recent much needed rains have had a positive impact on our state. While there is still a Drought Watch in effect for Smyth County, the dire situation that I worried about for our water supplies has been headed off. However, that being said, I encourage everyone to continue to be mindful of their water consumption and conserve as much as possible.

  3. Virginia Drought Status

As you are aware, Virginia continues to be in a severe drought. I have attached a copy of the most recent National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Drought Update, which shows that our region is not alone in this trying time. Until considerable precipitation is received, there is little relief for localities. That being said, I encourage everyone to be mindful of their water consumption and conserve as much as possible. While not yet to a critical state, as the water tables continue to fall, I am concerned about the health of our town springs and our ability to provide current outflow levels if the drought persists.

As you are aware, Virginia continues to be in a severe drought. I have attached a copy of the most recent DEQ Drought Update, which shows that our region is not alone in this trying time. Until considerable precipitation is received, there is little relief for localities. That being said, I encourage everyone to be mindful of their water consumption and conserve as much as possible.
