Last week, Catherine Hadnot from Chase's Journey Foundation converted the BBOP Center into a gift distribution site for special-needs families. And if you think that's just a lovely holiday story, you're missing what happened.
Catherine's a recent BBOP member, just a couple of weeks in the Beyond Ideation program. Her foundation supports families with children on the autism spectrum, specifically answering the question every parent asks after diagnosis: “What now?”
The 3 AM Idea That Worked
The toy giveaway started like most good ideas, a 3 AM wake-up call that wouldn't let her go back to sleep. She asked people to nominate a child with special needs whose family could use help this Christmas. Nominations came in slowly at first. Families were embarrassed, hesitant to ask.
Then things aligned. A friend from San Diego bought every toy in her Amazon cart. The district supervisor's office stepped in to cover the rest. Eight children were nominated. She also blessed her son's special education classroom (12 kids) and the sensory room at her church.
Three of the nominated families came to BBOP Center to pick up gifts.
Why This Moment Matters
One mother, there to pick up gifts for her four-year-old son Parker (whose birthday was that same day), broke down in tears. “For the first time,” she told Catherine, “I felt like someone heard my story.”
That's what Catherine does through Chase's Journey Foundation, she stands in the gap for families navigating a diagnosis with no roadmap, no support system, no one leading with compassion.
This wasn't charity theater. This was an entrepreneur using her business model to solve a real problem for families who don't have advocates.
That's what we're building at BBOP. Entrepreneurs who see gaps and fill them. Not later. Now.
