Brian Rebholz tapped as Chief of Police

Brian Rebholz was sworn in Dec. 17, 2024 as the 9th Chief of Police for West Chester Township.

Chief Rebholz, a 32-year veteran of the West Chester Police Department, has been serving as interim Chief since the June retirement of former Chief Joel Herzog.

Officer Rebholz first joined the Department in 1992 and advanced through the ranks being promoted to the Command Staff as Captain in February 2009 and then Assistant Chief in December 2016.

“I have always taken great pride in my profession and this department and am incredibly honored to lead this group of exceptional law enforcement professionals,” Chief Rebholz said. “The West Chester community supports its public servants and that support is inspirational for me and my staff. We strive every day to do better and be better for those we serve and I’m committed to that endeavor.”

Chief Rebholz began his law enforcement career in the U.S. Air Force in 1984 serving as a security police specialist until July 1991. He was hired by then Union Township Police Chief Lynn Brown in September 1992. As a patrolman, Chief Rebholz patrolled a much different community with very few stop lights and a lot of open fields.

“The community has changed dramatically over the years, but the value placed on public safety has not,” Chief Rebholz said. “Recruiting excellent personnel with focused development and training for our staff will remain a priority for the sustainability of the department. “For those seeking a law enforcement career in a community that values their police officers, they will find no better place to work than West Chester Township, Ohio.”

Over the course of his career, Colonel Rebholz has served as a CIS Detective, member of the Canine Unit, SWAT Unit Commander, Uniform Patrol Supervisor, Administrative Sergeant in Integrity & Development and Youth Aid Supervisor in the Criminal Investigation Section.

The Chief has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan and master’s degree from Miami University; and he is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College, is a Certified Law Enforcement Executive (CLEE) and a 2019 graduate of the FBI National Academy Class 276.
