Approximately 100 firefighters from West Chester Fire & EMS and surrounding communities battled an overnight fire May 2, 2024 on Meeting Street, Union Station Apartments, in West Chester, Ohio.
Twenty-four individual units within the apartment building were impacted. One firefighter was transported to West Chester Hospital for heat exposure and one civilian was transported due to smoke.
The fire call came in at 12:17 a.m. to West Chester dispatch. When crews arrived on scene, all three floors and the attic of the building had active fire. Crews began fighting the fire and searching for anyone who might be trapped inside.
“It was very fortunate that everyone was able to get out of the building,” said Fire Chief Rick Prinz.
All occupants were out of the building and fire crews focused on extinguishing the fire, calling on additional agencies for support.
“At one point, we believed the roof could collapse so firefighters moved out of the building to fight the fire from outside,” Chief Prinz said.
The American Red Cross is supporting the families displaced because of the fire and set up a shelter at the MidPointe Library.
The State Fire Marshal and West Chester’s fire investigators will work to determine the cause of the fire.
