The Winter 2024 issue of South Dakota History , the quarterly journal of the South Dakota State Historical Society, features articles on South Dakota state politics and the state legislature.

"South Dakota Politics During the New Deal Years" is reprinted from South Dakota History Vol. 1, No. 3. Paul A. O'Rourke examines the period in the 1930s when South Dakota had a Democratic-controlled legislature and Democratic governor simultaneously. The article explores the state Democratic Party's legislative record and legacy from this period.

Next, in another installment of "Curator's Corner," Corey Christianson, registrar for the South Dakota State Historical Society, highlights five pens, now housed in the State Museum's collection, that were used to pass significant legislation in South Dakota's history. Christianson details each pen's unique design, as well as the history behind the legislation that these pens signed into law.

Finally, in "Communicating History in the Age of Social Media," an address presented by author and historian Jason Steinhauer at the 2024 SDSHS Governor's Awards, Steinhauer discusses the new era of historical literacy and examines how we learn about history through the internet and, particularly, through social media.
